Each year the hospital based Carmarthenshire diabetes service produces annual report which is published on the website. It describes recent developments in the service and presents a wealth of aggregated data concerning the care of people with diabetes, with an emphasis on measures of quality. After almost 4 years in existence, the Carmarthenshire diabetes website has now undergone a facelift from our technical expert Thomas Williams. These are some of the new features:

The home page now has a fresh look with a new Network logo incorporating background scenes of Carmarthenshire landscapes
The new drop-down menus should make it even easier to find the screens you want
The font size can now be magnified by clicking a button in the top right corner
The screens are also printer friendly
A mouse click takes you to the new diabetes blog, which will keep you posted

Launch of Carmarthenshire Diabetes Blog

The Carmarthenshire Diabetes Network team are pleased to announce the latest development in local diabetes services – our own website log, or “blog”.

The intention is to make the website more interactive to improve communication between local diabetes health professionals.

Notices will be posted on the blog by members of the Network on a regular basis. Other local diabetes health professionals are invited to post their comments which will then appear on the blog for all to see.

The subject matter of notices will be many and varied in the field of diabetes, including details of changes in the local diabetes services, forthcoming meetings, new diabetes treatments, education and training matters and other issues concerned with the clinical care of people with diabetes.

As the contents of the blog will also be of interest to people with diabetes, read only access will be provided to all internet users via a direct link from the Carmarthenshire diabetes website.

Carmarthenshire diabetes team wins national award

The diabetes team from Carmarthenshire NHS Trust and the Local Health Board has recently won the Health Foundation Shared Leadership for Change Award.

The award will be shared with four diabetes teams from England and one from Scotland. The teams were judged by the quality of the service, leadership, vision for the future, patient involvement, and openness and transparency.

By being selected for the award the team will be recognised as among the leading providers of diabetes care in the UK. The team members will now undergo an 18 month leadership development programme which will encourage them to promote best practice in the care of diabetes and other chronic diseases elsewhere in the UK.

Dr Meurig Williams, Consultant Diabetologist at Carmarthenshire NHS Trust, said, “This award recognises the years of dedicated effort by local health workers in planning and providing diabetes services which are aimed at achieving these goals.”

Diabetes Toolkit for Health Professionals

Workshops like the one held in Tumble Memorial Hall pictured above have been organised throughout the county to introduce the Toolkit to GP surgeries. Copies are available in every surgery and the web version is available on this site.

Diabetes Record Book

The Carmarthenshire LDSAG Team have now completed the task of revising and extending the hand held diabetes patient record book. This was previously issued to hospital clinic based patients only, but the present version is intended for those followed up in primary care as well. It takes the form of a Personal Organiser with replaceable pages which can be printed from this website by clicking here.

Website Goes Bilingual

The patient sections have now been produced in the Welsh language, thanks to Menter Cwm Gwendraeth who performed the mammoth task of translating the 25,000 words of text. Launch of Carmarthenshire Diabetes Website

The launch of the Website was marked by an event held at the Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli on Friday January 9th. The invited audience included health professionals involved in diabetes care and local people with diabetes. The guest speaker at the launch was local celebrity Ray Gravelle.
